Damaris Smith Desimone Scholarship
New York State DAR Scholarship
Olive Whitman Memorial Scholarship - DAR Good Citizens Award-This committee recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. Each award is given on a merit basis including completion of a questionnaire, essay, scholastic record, and a letter of recommendation. United States citizenship is not required. National awards for the first, second, and third-place winners include scholarships to the school of their choice.
- New York Cottages -For over 75 years, New York Daughters have been committed to helping the children at our DAR Schools realize their full potential. In addition to the usual DAR Schools Committee activities (such as monetary contributions, participation in the national school project, Friends of the Schools, collecting labels from Campbell's soups and other Swanson products, donations to thrift shops, and contributions to the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund), the New York Daughters provide financial and material support for three houses at two of the six DAR schools.
At Kate Duncan Smith DAR School, the Aebly-Howland Cottage and the Cuff North/South Duplex Cottage provide on-campus housing for three faculty members.
At Tamassee DAR School, the New York State Cottage provides a home environment for up to ten disadvantaged girls aged 6-10. Chapters become personally involved with the girls by sending them cards and letters, pocket money, birthday gifts, and Christmas gifts. Some chapters donate specific items from the houseparent's "wish list," such as the play gym provided by one chapter in 1999.
- Flag Essay Contest -The New York State Flag of the United States of America Committee sponsors a flag essay contest for fifth and sixth grade students. The Onwentsia Chapter enlists schools to participate. From the essays that are written, each Our Flag Committee selects one essay to submit for consideration for one of four prizes.
- Support Veterans Hospital - Bath Veterans Administration Medical Center
- Project Patriot -DAR Project Patriot is the official Daughters of the American Revolution committee that supports America's service personnel in current conflicts abroad.
