Become an Onwentsia Member of the DAR

Officers of Onwentsia Chapter
How do I join the DAR?
Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible to join the DAR. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage and death, as well as of the Revolutionary War service of her Patriot ancestor.
DAR volunteers in the Onwentsia chapter can provide guidance and assistance with the application process. Admission to membership in the National Society is through a chapter or as a Member-At-Large.
Don't know where to start?
The first step is to begin with what you know and what you can document. What documents do you have for yourself and your family? Do you have a copy of your birth certificate? If you are married, do you have a copy of your marriage certificate? What information is in these records? What documentation do you have for your parents and grandparents? If any of them are deceased, do you have copies of their death certificates or obituaries?
If you have close relatives who have joined the DAR, all that you may need to do is to provide documentation that connects you to their application. In that case, you may not need to do additional research. If you do not have a close relative who is or was a member of the DAR, you will likely need to do some genealogical research in order to find a suitable patriot ancestor on whom to join the Society.
Please bring what you have with you when you meet with the Onwentsia Chapter representative. She will be able to guide you through the application process. Please feel free to use the contact page to reach us.
Why Should I become a member?
Membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution honors and preserves the legacy of your Patriot ancestor. Over two hundred years ago, American Patriots fought and sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today. As a member of DAR, through participation in the Society’s various programs and activities, you can continue this legacy by actively supporting historic preservation, promotion of education, and patriotic endeavors.
Who are DAR members?
We are women a lot like you, who come from diverse background and hold a variety of interests. Our common bond is our lineal descent from Patriots of the American Revolution – any woman, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove this lineage is eligible to join.
We are women who…
We look forward to hearing from you.
